We take our role as Caretakers seriously
We are caretakers in the earth. From the spiritual perspective the
humans have a duty and unique responisbility to be caretakers of
this planet. Humans are uniquely capable of manipulating their
surrounding environment, and as a result, have a duty and
responsibility to leave the environment better for our having
passed. This idea has been popularized and marketed as the "green
movement (or insert favorite catchphrase)". Along with this
marketing of various environmental causes is the idea that this
concern is somehow new, or unique to a post-modern world. Being
caretakers is hardly a new idea.
We like to think of it as a
return to older ideals, older values--original ideals and values,
if you will. To this end, here at Proudland Landscape, we have
implemented several goals, processes, and procedures. These center
primarily around consumption and waste aspects of our operations,
as well as the installation and treatment aspects of our
operations.
Green, environmental, and conservation initiatives at Proudland Landscape
Composting
Several months ago we set a goal of zero landfill contributions. Whereas, that is a tough goal, and one which will need to be implemented over time. We have acheived zero landfill contributions from our routine services. The main component of this initiative is our composting program. For two seasonal flower rotations, we have used our own homebrewed compost as the primary source for soil amendments.
